Unmet Needs
We all share the same basic needs.
We have physiological needs, such as the need for oxygen, food, and water.
We have a need to feel safe.
We have a need for love and belonging.
We have a need for self-esteem. We need to feel important and that we are appreciated.
We have a need to fulfill our potential.
When our basic needs are not met, it can cause anger, depression, and anxiety.
It’s important that we get our legitimate needs met in healthy ways. (For example, sometimes people will get involved in a cult or a gang to try to get a legitimate need met for love and belonging.)
Sometimes we are unable to ask for our needs to be met due to subconscious beliefs we’ve formed, such as “other people’s needs are more important than mine,” “my needs don’t matter,” “nobody cares about me,” etc.
Recognizing our needs and getting them met in healthy ways is a key to the healing process.
