A Beautiful Revolution in the Wilderness

There is a beautiful revolution taking place in the wilderness—a movement born out of discontent and longing, fueled by love for Jesus and a hunger for something deeper, truer, and more authentic. It’s profoundly healing to find others who share this yearning, people who love Jesus but are grieved by how poorly the institutional Evangelical church represents Him and His ways.

This revolution isn’t happening in church buildings, boardrooms, or conference halls. It’s springing up in living rooms, coffee shops, and campfires under the open sky. It’s unfolding in places where we dare to ask hard questions, where we let go of old molds and allow our faith to breathe again.

I still believe—deep in my bones—that God is changing the understanding and expression of Christianity in one generation. And maybe, just maybe, we are that generation.

But to do this, we need a new container for the times. The old wineskins are bursting at the seams, unable to hold the fresh, living wine of what God is doing. Somebody has to break out of the mold. Somebody has to step into the wilderness, where the Spirit is leading, and do things differently.

As Rachel Held Evans once wrote, “This is what God’s kingdom is like: a bunch of outcasts and oddballs gathered at a table, not because they are rich or worthy or good, but because they are hungry, because they said yes. And there’s always room for more.”

This revolution is about creating those tables in the wilderness—spaces where everyone belongs, where questions are welcome, and where the bread and wine of Christ are shared freely, without gatekeeping.

The wilderness isn’t an easy place. It’s wild, untamed, and sometimes lonely. But it’s also where God meets His people, where manna falls from heaven, where water flows from the rock. It’s where the seeds of something new are sown.

Let’s be bold enough to join this revolution. Let’s dare to dream of a faith that looks more like Jesus—loving, inclusive, and alive.
