Self-Care
“You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.” (Psalms 23:5-6 Msg)
It is important that we practice self-care, especially after a stressful event or season. It helps to regulate our nervous system and brings us back into harmony.
Self-care practices are what makes us feel healthy and happy. They nurture self-compassion.
Four basic self care practices include:
- Sleep – Sleep deprivation keeps us from seeing clearly and being present.
- Exercise – Exercise improves mood and is one of the best cures for stress.
- Diet – What we eat affects our mood and affects our overall health.
- Rest – Take time to do what refreshes and replenishes you.
In addition to these self-care practices, it is important to look at emotional roots that can cause nervous system dysregulation.
